Quantify Research Lab

Research that turns African evidence into better decisions.

The research lab of Analytics for Africa.

We run economic, management and social research for the organisations shaping the continent, and we build the next generation of African researchers through our fellowship.

What the lab does

  1. Research consultingEconomic, management and social research.
  2. Research fellowshipA roster of early-career researchers and data scientists.

Our work

Two things, done properly.

Some questions need a study, not a dashboard. The lab designs and runs that research, and trains the researchers who do it.

Economic, management & social research

Rigorous studies for governments, development partners, businesses and foundations who need to understand a market, a policy or a population before they act.

  • Market, sector and value-chain studies
  • Policy and programme evaluation
  • Surveys and social research
  • Organisational and management research

Research fellowship

A roster of early-career researchers and data scientists who want to do serious work on African questions. When a project needs their skills, we bring them onto it alongside experienced researchers.

  • Join the roster once, be considered for every fitting project
  • Work on live research projects
  • Mentoring from senior researchers

The fellowship

For researchers at the start of something.

Africa needs more people who can ask a good question, find the data to answer it, and defend the answer. The fellowship is where we train them, by doing the work together.

It works as a roster, not a fixed cohort. You apply once. If you're accepted, you join the roster, and we call on fellows from it as projects come in that match what they know.

Who it is for

Early-career researchers and data scientists: recent graduates, postgraduate students, and people a few years into research or data roles.

How the roster works

Apply with your background and interests. We review each application, and accepted fellows join the roster. Being on it doesn't guarantee a project; it means you're considered whenever one fits.

What fellows do

Join lab projects in economic, management and social research, from framing the question and working with the data to writing up what it shows.

Fellowship application

Apply to join the fellowship roster.

This application is for a place on the roster, not for a specific project. Tell us what you know and what you'd like to work on, and we'll be in touch about your application.

  • Takes about five minutes
  • A link to your CV or LinkedIn helps us assess you
  • We match roster fellows to projects as they come in

Applying puts you forward for the fellowship roster. Applications are handled by Quantify Nigeria Ltd, which runs the lab. We'll only use your details to assess your application and contact you about fellowship projects.

Part of Analytics for Africa

Questions

Good to know.

How is it different from Analytics for Africa's own work?

Analytics for Africa builds dashboards, models and data platforms, runs Data-as-a-Service and the Academy, and publishes Insights. The lab does research and research training. When a project needs both, whichever side brought in the client leads and brings in the other.

Quantify Nigeria Ltd, under the Analytics for Africa brand. Lab contracts and invoices are in Quantify Nigeria Ltd's name.
